NOVEMBER 2011 - 1

At the Skipton Shorthorn Sales on Wednesday 9th November, our bull Shawhill Donald 573801537 was fortunate enough to top the sale. He sold at 4,100gns. to Messrs Innes who had travelled from Aberdeenshire that morning to buy a bull. We were also pleased to sell an in-calf heifer at 1,650gns. to Jonathan Allison of Appleton le Moors who had bought the top price bull from us at this event last year.

OCTOBER 2011 - 2

We enjoyed attending the Shorthorn Calf Show at Carlisle Agri-Expo on 28th October. There was an excellent standard of entries. Congratulations to Messrs Landers for their champion Cairnsmore Eloise Scarlet - this heifer is Vortrekker of Upsall bred on the sire side. Vortrekker is currently with us here at Newlands.

Thanks to Paul Braithwaite of the Albion Herd for this photograph of our fourth prize heifer Shawhill Rosebud Edith 53800039, by Tarrant Arnie.

OCTOBER 2011 - 1

We have two strong poll bulls going to the Skipton Shorthorn Sales on Wednesday 9th November. They are full brothers - Connor of Upsall 563802220 and Shawhill Donald 573801537. They are aged rather less than a year apart. Both have particularly good EBVs for growth and we have used Connor in the pedigree herd and on suckler cows - he has good calves on the ground.

Also going to Skipton is a nice red heifer in calf to our Canadian stock bull Alvie Blue Eyedboy by Wolf Willow Major Leroy. The calves from this bull are showing considerable promise.

SEPTEMBER 2011 - 1

We have a poll bull (Shawhill Douglas 573801536) going to the "Perth Bull Sales" at Stirling on Monday 17th October. Douglas has been a 1st prize winner at a number of shows including last years calf show & was reserve Shorthorn Champion at this years North Yorkshire County Show.

Also entered are three heifers. All are p.d. in calf to our stock bull, Alvie Blue Eyedboy by Wolf Willow Major Leroy. This offers a good opportunity to get a calf with this sought after Canadian breeding.

AUGUST 2011 – 2

We enjoyed the very well attended North of England Beef Shorthorn Club visit to the Bankfoot, Albion & Ballard herds. All were well worth seeing and, as always, we learned from seeing how others do it. We were suitably impressed by the Albion herd`s Tarrant Arnie who is the sire of our own heifer calf Shawhill Rosebud Edith.

DUMFRIES & LOCKERBIE SHOW

Our heifer Sandwick Celtic Rose improved on last year's Reserve position by being placed Beef Shorthorn Champion, and winning the Cairnsmore Trophy, this year when shown with her bull calf at foot.

Our 18 month old bull, Shawhill Douglas, was placed first in his class thus notching up a hat trick of three 1sts for the three times he has been exhibited in Shorthorn shows.
